Chester Tuesday League – Elite FC 7 V Thistle FC 9

A ‘tired and emotional’ Elite took on Thistle FC at Goals Chester last Tuesday, to disappointing results.

The game got off to a great start, with Dave Madeley opening the scoring, finding the net with a well-crafted spin and volley.

Elite were awarded a penalty for obstruction by a Thistle player but unfortunately Alex Gilfoyle hit it straight at the keeper. Dan Abbott was on it though, weaving the ball through a host of Thistle players before slamming the ball home, prompting an excited Chris Podolchuk to shout: “That was sexual!”

Podolchuk made a couple of good saves before the Thistle keeper denied Madeley from bagging a second.

And with barely 5 minutes off the clock Abbott struck again, feeding off an assist from Gilfoyle to find the net.

But Thistle hit back, scoring four scrappy goals to take the lead on 14 minutes.

Elite were flagging, and Thistle’s bully-boy tactics were wearing them down but they weren’t giving up without a fight, Dale Hart tried his luck but could only fire straight at the keeper.

But when Abbott and Gilfoyle teamed up again, this time it was the latter who scored, taking the score to 4-4 at half-time.

Half-Time: Elite FC 4 Thistle FC 4

Gilfoyle scored soon after the teams kicked-off for the second half and Paul Brunton was unlucky, hitting the post less than a minute later.

But Elite’s lead didn’t last long and Thistle evened the score soon after.

Abbott scored again on 29 minutes and Brunton’s persistence was eventually rewarded with a good goal.

Thistle hit back with their sixth on 32 minutes and when Brunton hit the side netting the opposition took advantage of the change in fortune, scoring three goals in quick succession to claim a 9-7 victory.

Man of the match: N/A Elite were all over the place and occasional moments of brilliance couldn’t cover up an unfocused sloppy performance – sorry guys!
